Junior Kaleb Wilson will be the first cross country individual state qualifier since 2014.
Last Saturday, Oct 21, Wilson took sixth place at the Lansing regionals with a time of 17:56.
Preparing for the race, Wilson said he took an ice bath to make sure his muscles were relaxed yet energized for the race and made sure to eat a lot of carbs and protein the night before.
Getting to state was no easy task and Wilson said it took a lot of hard work.
“It took a lot of hard work putting the miles in during the summer and pushing myself really hard during practices. I knew that if I put in the work that I would have a good chance at going to state,” Wilson said. “I’m really excited because it’s every runner’s dream to make it to state.”
Head coach Jake Wike said all of the off-season training Wilson did is what led him to the improvements he’s made.
Wilson will be going to Wamego this Saturday, Oct. 28, to compete against over 100 runners.
