Royals Near Opening Day

Zack Reno, Sports Writer

April 1st, 2021 the Kansas City Royals will be playing their home opener against the Texas Rangers. Game time is set for 3:10 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals gained a key outfielder, Andrew Benintendi, to replace Alex Gordon after he announced his retirement. They also signed back one of their fastest players, Jarod Dyson, to a one-year contract for $1.5 million.

The Royals finished the 2020 season at 15-15 in home games. The Royals have a strong pitching staff after the last couple of years where pitching has been their downfall to winning games. The Rangers also have a strong pitching staff to go up against the Royals in their first game of the season.

The Royals finished the spring training season at the top of the Cactus league going 16-6 with a winning percentage of .667 while the Rangers finished at a 14-12 record with a winning percentage of .538. All of the news reporters and sports analysts are saying that the Royals are going to make a good run this season and go 500 or better.

This season opener should be a good game for both teams to be able to see some of the players for the first time and to see who performs the best.

Due to COVID, some MLB stadiums are allowing fewer people in the stadium. The Royals are allowing 10,000 fans in Kauffman Stadium instead of their usual 38,000 fans.
