Matt Rife controversy

Matt Rife is a comedian who became popular through TikTok this past year, or known for being in the show Wild ‘N Out. He just recently came out with a Netflix special called Matt Rife Natural Selection. Rife is known to make some pretty controversial jokes with the crowds. Some people believe that the only reason he is funny is because of his crowd work.

With Rife’s new show out and people watching it, they have realized that some jokes that he is saying are not funny at all and are pretty messed up. He made a joke about domestic violence to start his set in the movie. The joke he had made was “I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn’t have that black eye,”. After making the joke, he said to his crowd “I just wanted to see if y’all were fun.” Rife then goes on to have a “normal” show but still makes comments that regard him making fun of women.

The show had a few different segments in it. They were not getting any better for him with the controversy. There were a few jokes he made about children with disabilities and allegedly stole a joke from Ralphie May. As well as just making homophobic jokes and thinking they are all super funny. On Rotten Tomatoes, the rating is 16% and the word “unfunny” pops up multiple times.

Rife had decided to head to social media by liking tweets people have been posting in his defense, even the ones that ultimately made him look worse. Rife had posted a picture on his Instagram story saying, “If you’ve ever been offended by a joke I’ve told — here’s a link to my official apology.” The link read “Tap to solve your problem.” The link would take you to a website to purchase a protective helmet for children who have special needs.
